You Volunteer is part of the Great Aves non-profit organisation, and offers volunteer placements to teach in the Amazon jungle of Ecuador.

Founded in July 2007, Great Aves is a non-profit organisation involved with community and educational development. The organisation aims to create opportunities for everyone through schools and the local community in England and overseas. Great Aves works to enhance what already exists, by increasing awareness of community activities and events, and the value of education.

The organisation was initially created to help improve education in the schools along the Arajuno Road, near Puyo in Ecuador. The first volunteer project, the Arajuno Road Project was started to meet this aim. From www.arajunoroadproject.org, the organisation moved to www.youvolunteer.org in September in 2007 and expanded into animal welfare, by helping Flor de la Amazonia animal rescue centre with equipment and volunteers. In January 2009 the centre, which was located on the Arajuno Road, became a for-profit making group, and as a result Great Aves have ended the association.

The first volunteers arrived at the Amazon Teaching Project (Arajuno Road Project) on 31st March 2008, and has enjoyed steady success. For the future YouVolunteer is looking to offer placements at more teaching and conservation projects around the world. Great Aves is expanding its fundraising activities, and is gratefully supported by dedicated and hardworking volunteers around the globe.
