December Newsletter 2009: Amazon Teaching Project
Dear Arajuno Road Project Friends!
Christmas is near, the schools are off for vacations and we close our project until January 2010. That is why I am writing to you already a little bit earlier than usual.
It has been an incredible year for the Arajuno Road Project: The house saw many improvements and has become a great jungle - style house, that combines comfort and nature and that volunteers appreciate a lot. Many people lived here over the year and experienced unforgettable weeks or months of living in the rainforest and getting the chance to give something back to the communities on the Arajuno Road. Most importantly we were able to advance our project to a total of five schools. The greatest achievement for us is the trust of teachers and people living around here, who have welcomed us as new neighbours, introduced us as members to their communities and who appreciate what we are doing for the children in the area.
Of course, without all the help of volunteers and their input this project wouldn’t be at the stage where it is right now. Thank you all for the wonderful work you have done for the Arajuno Road Project over the year!
A great number of children are able to learn English now, which motivates us even more to continue and improve the project in 2010!

Finally... we have buses running past the volunteer house, saves us the walk up the hill, no morning 1 but 1 to bring us back from school

We have had a week of glorious sunshine, making it truly feel like summer (yep even on the equator).

Kites are in fashion in the jungle at the moment. Surely we'll be able to have a better attempt than the last time we tried to made kites.

Summer school is into its 2nd week, and everyone is getting very creative. Lots of activities, games and crafts.
